Spirit of Grace Church in Holdrege has completed distributing school supplies to students throughout Phelps County.  This year the church topped one thousand complete school supply kits given to families in the area free of charge.

“This year, we served 157 students representing 71 families in Phelps County. It has been a real privilege to see the word spread since we got started eight years ago,” said Christy Drews, Coordinator for Spirit of Grace’s Family Alliance Ministry. “I see firsthand what it means for children to start their first day of school confident with the supplies they need.”

“We believe that Jesus has called Spirit of Grace Church to be good neighbors to all of the people around us.  One of the ways we do that is through this school supplies ministry.  God has blessed us, and we embrace the opportunity to bless others,” added Ted Carnahan, pastor of the nearly nine-year-old church.

Over 25 people of all ages helped assemble the backpacks on the evening of Wednesday, July 31.  Each backpack was tailored to the individual student’s school and grade level. “We have a great system that allows this process to go quickly while respecting the privacy of the recipients,” stated Ms. Drews.  The backpacks and supplies were distributed to the families later that week.

According to Ms. Drews, “It’s sometimes hard to accept that there is real need in Phelps County, but we are grateful that people contact us for help.  It’s gratifying to connect those who need help with those who have the resources to respond. It’s our sincere hope that this ministry will help our children begin their school year on a positive note.”

We're pleased to announce two new designated giving funds established at Spirit of Grace's last Leadership Team meeting:

A fund dedicated to "Establishing a permanent location for this congregation and providing for its long term maintenance needs.”
We continue to rent our current location at 413 West Avenue, and it has been a great place for us, but we also see the need to have property that we can control and invest in for the future of the church and our community.  This fund has been established for those who would like to give to the future of Spirit of Grace to do one of these things:

1. Purchase our current building, if it would become available,
2. Purchase and renovate a different building, or
3. Purchase land to build a new building for the church.

Funds received above the need for the building or purchase would be used into the future to provide for the maintenance of our building.

A fund dedicated to "Ongoing and capital expenses related to sound reinforcement and/or the music ministries of this congregation.”
As we look to the future, we recognize that there are opportunities to improve the quality of our sound system and the instrumentation that we use in worship.  This fund gives us the opportunity to pursue those possibilities.  It also gives us a source of ready funds for times when equipment wears out or breaks.
